How is everyone doing?

Zagg sent me a full body invisible shield for my iPhone 3G. I plan on reviewing it, however I am going to head to the Apple Store tomorrow and attempt to exchange my iPhone tomorrow. I have been having a fair amount of problems with it lately and do not want to use the shield until I have a new phone.

Finally, I will be opening up a new website very shortly. www.GeoffreyFarinha.com is already underconstruction and that will be my new home. I am very serious about getting into tech and device reviews, therefore I need a more serious domain.

Stay tuned everyone and keep the traffic coming!

Thanks!

MSI Wind 9-Cell Battery unboxing video

Just received my 9 cell battery for the Wind. I was able to do a very quick unboxing video with my digital camera. I apologize ahead of time for the quality as I do not have a video recorder just yet, the audio is also out of sync for some weird reason, and it was my first unboxing video.
I am going to post a review once I’ve used the battery for a little. Thanks

UPDATE- Initial Impressions with the battery

Once again I apologize for the quality and audio sync

A Big Day For Nokia

I am sure that you have all heard Nokia’s BIG announcement today of the N97 Phone. The combination of a nice touchscreen with a high resolution and a slideout QWERTY keyboard seem to make this device a winner. Nokia seems to be aiming directly at competing with Apple and the iPhone on this one. There are a few great features that the N97 has that the iPhone doesn’t.

32GB built-in storage

5MP camera with flash

Physical QWERTY keyboard

Rumored to have much better battery life

I for one will be eagerly awaiting the launch of this device.

Super Cyber Monday

As many of you are aware today was Cyber Monday!

There were many great deals to be had on all of the various websites. Some of the noteworthy offers were as follows:

American Express Wishlist was offering a T-Mobile G1 for $125

amexg11

Also AT&T was offering many phones for FREE with NEW 2-year activation. Details can be found on Howard Forums.

I was going to order myself a Fuze off of the premier site but in the end I decided to hold off. I simply didn’t feel like paying the ETF for a phone I really did not need.
Mobility Today was (and still is!!) running 10% off your entire order at their online store

Many of the other online retailers such as Buy.com and Amazon.com had a lot to offer as well.

Overall I think this years Cyber Monday was a great one. The current state of the economy forced some retailers to drop prices to a record low which was a HUGE benefit to the consumer.

I know this was a short post, but I am off to play some Left 4 Dead with Cwilliams

Take it easy everyone…

My Blackberry Storm experience…or lack there of

I apologize for the delay of writing another entry. I hope every ones thanksgiving was great and you enjoyed both the company of your family and loved ones and you ate enough food to feed a small country.

Many of you know that I work as a part-time sales consultant at a Best Buy Mobile location here in NH. The ongoing release of new devices paired with my obsession of cell phones usually becomes a bad mix. So bad in fact that I am now on my 11th phone in a year (may not be a lot to some of you, I think its a lot for a full-time college student with a very limited income :) ).

Anywho. My Verizon Wireless Data Rep, Matt, brought a Blackberry Storm in to show us the phone a week before it came out. After using the device I was extremely skeptical then and labeled it as a gimmick stating that the click screen was just one simple confirmation button. A week after using the phone with Matt it was officially released to the public. Our stock for day one (which requires two hands to count) sold out in a few hours. However, a few days later half of them were returned. This allowed me to play with a few models here and there in my downtime and I began to form a liking for the Storm. Gone was the thought of the gimmicky click screen. Instead I now thought that it was a great idea and could allow my text messaging to be much more accurate than on my iPhone. Another huge factor was that AT&T had promised NH that 3G would finally be turned on November 13, and well we still have nothing. I was fed up and understood that with the Storm I can achieve the EVDO variant.  Finally after days of wishing I had one I took the plunge and purchased one yesterday.

Immediately my Manager and I began matching the storm up to the iPhone with various speed tests. First we wanted to try seeing which phone could load certain websites faster. We decided on going to www.blackberrystorm.com the iphone typed out the URL in about 3 seconds. The Storm, took me a few tries. What came out first was-www.bkackbettystorm.com, then-www.blackbettystorm.com, finally www.blackbertystorm.com. I did realize that it was my first time using the device so I bit my tounge and stayed positive. I forwarded a picture intense email from my iPhone to the Storm (from xbox.com). I understand that by default the pictures don’t load initially on any blackberry, you need to select the option to “load images”. Even with this option selected not all of the images were able to load successfully, and the entire message didn’t seem to fit the screen correctly. My manager also forwarded an email to my Gmail account (which was pushing on both the Storm and my iPhone). The iPhone received the email about 4-5 minutes before the storm. I navigated the menus, had the screen change from landscape to vertical and vice versa for absolutely no reason. I finally had enough. I returned the Storm 15 minutes after activating it and cancelled out the contract.

Many of you may think that I did not have the phone for nearly long enough to form a valid opinion on this device. I do not feel that this is the case at all. In the 15 minutes I used the Blackberry Storm I realized simply that it was not the phone for me. It’s one of the best phones I have ever used in terms of build quality, the screen resolution is stunning and the speaker sounds amazing. I suggest everyone watch the Babylon A.D. clip that is preloaded and you will know what I mean. Many people will love the Blackberry Storm, however it is just simply not for me. David Ciccone over at www.MobilityToday.com made a wonderful video review that shows just how great the phone looks both in its design and in its resolution.

My Managers blog

For now I am stuck with my trusty iPhone…

Feel free to leave comments as I would be happy to discuss this.

My Goal

Hey everyone. Some of you may or may not know that I have an aspiration to:

1. Make this a very well known and informative blog, the kind that people choose to go to each day.

2. To become a reviewer for cell phones and cell phone products. Because I work in the industry and posses the needed passion I feel I will be great at this.

Therefore, I ask that everyone that visits here, tell someone you know about this blog. Link it on websites, email it to friends. The more viewers I get the better ground I hold to get to where I want to be. I will be doing my best to create daily updates from this point forward. ALSO if you can spread the word about my twitter account…www.twitter.com/ultimo119

Thank you very much everyone!

OSX/Dell 1510 Wifi Install

Finally getting around to installing OSX onto my Wind I was faced with the same problem as everyone else. While my dualboot setup of OSX and WIndows XP ran like a champ I was unable to use wifi under OSX because it could not recognize the stock realtek card that is in the MSI Wind. I ordered myself a Broadcom (Dell branded) internal WiFi card from ebay and was able to install it succesfully.

The seller I purchased the card from is here:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=160298608631&ssPageName=STRK:MEWN:IT&ih=006

The pictures below are of OSX running on the Wind, and of the Dell 1510 N install. I apologize for the poor quality, my camera apparently is broken and I need to pick up a new one.

If anyone has anyquestions on the install of either the dual OS or the wifi card feel free to ask it’s very simply. Also I would like to mention the guys over at forums.msiwind.net they are a great bunch and have helped a lot.

Right now

So I ordered myself a 9-cell battery for my MSI Wind. I also ordered a dell internal wifi card to install. I had to do this because I put a second Operating System on my Wind to make it dual bootable. For those who know what OS I am talking about then you will know why.

I will post some pictures of the install of the wifi card, as well as a final thought on the MSI Wind and how I feel about whether or not it is worth the $350 spent to pick one up.

Stay tuned

A re-awakening

October was an extremely busy month. Between school, work, and trying to have a life with what little free time I had I was unable to update this blog and keep everyone updated.

Therefore, starting today I will attempt to update this blog atleast 3-4 times a week. I will be posting another update tonight with some pictures of my new netbook, etc.

Thanks
